SCHOOL NEWS

Students Supporting Local Businesses
We currently have an “open-campus” for our 10th-12th grade students. This allows our students to leave the school to access other food options, including local restaurants. It is great to support our local businesses because they find various ways to support our students and our programs.

As customers of local businesses, and representatives of Grand Ledge High School, PLEASE be sure to exhibit good behavior at all times, but especially during lunch times. Good behavior includes, but is not limited to cleaning our lunch mess, following business protocols, using appropriate language and voices, and driving safely. THANK YOU for helping up support local businesses appropriately, and allowing us to maintain our open campus option for students!!

Students - Thank You for Reporting Concerns!!
We were able to address a concern quickly this week due to students recognizing a concern and reporting it immediately. We appreciate you and your willingness to help us resolve negative situations!

If you encounter a non-urgent concern that should be addressed by the school, you can speak with someone in the office or you can fill out the Student Concern Reporting Form.

For urgent, emergency, or safety concerns - please contact an adult immediately. You can go to the office, find a classroom teacher, you can call the office at 517-925-5815, or you can also call 911 if no adults are readily available.

Saturday School Dates for 3rd Trimester
Attendance Matters - what is Saturday School at GLHS and when might a student need to attend? Attendance is an essential component to a student's academic success. Often, the number of days that students are absent accumulate without them realizing how name days have been missed.

If a student reaches 7 absences in any class per trimester without documentation, they may lose credit and the privilege to participate in extracurricular activities, including school dances. The student would then be encouraged to attend Saturday School with our Deans of Students to work on school assignments to ensure credit.

Saturday School runs from 8:00am – 11:00am in the Media Center. The dates for 3rd Trimester Saturday School at GLHS are:

April 25 (only SS before prom)
May 16 (last SS for seniors)
May 30 (last SS for 9th/10th/11th grade students)

Educational Development Plans (EDPs)
Grand Ledge Public Schools utilizes Xello, a comprehensive K-12 platform that prepares students for the modern economy. Through interactive activities, students build self-awareness, explore diverse career options, and develop the critical skills needed to succeed in the 21st century.

Xello is the platform students use to build and update their Educational Development Plan (EDP). This "living document" is a requirement of the Michigan Career Development Model (MCDM) and serves as a personalized roadmap for their academic and career future.

Student ownership is the goal, but family support is the foundation. We encourage you to talk to your students about their Educational Development Plan (EDP) and how they are using Xello to prepare for their future.  Parents/Guardians can utilize a Xello Family Account to stay connected.  Click the link below to learn more, and reach out to Mrs. Dykstra at dykstrak@glcomets.net to set up a Xello Family account.   Xello Family Account

This opportunity can lead to full-time employment and a career at BWL. Students that are accepted into the BWL 1st Step program will be hired in paid Co-op positions for the second and third trimester of their senior year (typically 1st & 2nd hour).  Click HERE for more information.

Blessings in a Backpack - Grand Ledge

Students needing additional food at home can participate in the Grand Ledge Blessings in a Backpack program. Examples of some of the food items distributed are: macaroni and cheese, canned vegetables, soup, oatmeal, granola bars, fruit cups, and beef ravioli.
